The Gallery of Human Migration exists because someone decided migration stories were worth preserving. Your gift—at any size—keeps that decision alive.
When I founded the Gallery, I had no building, no endowment, and no guarantee this would grow into anything beyond a conviction. What I had was the belief that every migration story—those of the people who moved, those who stayed behind, and those who opened their doors—deserved a permanent home.
We now have eleven stories in the Collection. We have launched a Migration Literary Award. We have friends who showed up before there was proof this would work.
You are one of those friends. Thank you for being here again.
— Rocco Maragna, Founder
In 2025, the Gallery launched its inaugural Migration Literary Award—the first formal recognition of migration writing in the Gallery’s history. Interested writers submitted their stories. Five distinguished jurors gave their time and rigour. Six national arts and literary organizations spread the call from coast to coast.
Those eight stories now live permanently in the Stories Collection, alongside the three that came before. Eleven voices. Eleven threads in the weave. Writers from Vancouver to Halifax, from Victoria to Sault Ste. Marie, carrying roots from Palestine, Japan, Colombia, Lebanon, the Philippines, Afghanistan, and beyond.
None of them would be here without the people who funded the work.
Your gift funds the 2026 Migration Literary Award—the jury process, the open call, the award itself, and the permanent preservation of every story that enters the Collection. It builds the stage on which writers who are still finding the courage to tell what happened to them can finally be heard.
Stories in the Collection—from every direction the world moves.
Inaugural Migration Literary Award—8 stories, 5 jurors, 6 national partners.
Years laying the foundation, thread by thread.
This is where we are. Your gift determines what the weave holds next.
Those who stay. Holding pride and grief in the same hand, watching someone they love disappear toward a horizon they may never see.
Those who move. Carrying courage and loss across a distance that cannot always be measured in kilometres.
Those who receive.Quietly, permanently changed by the arrival of someone new.
The Migration Literary Award honours all three. The Stories Collection holds all three. Your gift makes room for all three.
One gift, given right now, funds a piece of this year’s Award. A juror’s time. A printed page. A writer’s first chance to be heard.

Your story of migration, the one inherited, lived, and witnessed across generations, has a place here. The Tapestry, the 2026 edition of the Gallery’s Migration Literary Award, is an international recognition and publication initiative honouring personal and ancestral stories. Every selected voice is honoured equally. No rankings, no podium. Submissions open March 31 and close August 31, 2026.
